This is a book discussing topics of immigration, deportation, love, destiny vs coincidence, and doing justice to all of them.

It’s about a girl who is being deported back to a country that is not her home. It’s about a boy who is torn between who he wants to be and who his family needs him to be. This is a story about how Korean-American Daniel and Jamaican-American Natasha fall in love over the course of 12 hours, but it’s also so much more than that.
It’s about family, and refuge, and resentment. It’s about race, heritage, and history. It’s about a woman in uniform who is always there but who is never really seen. She is dying for someone to ask how she’s doing. It’s about a lawyer who works in a big building, who incidentally, is in love with someone he can never have. He is torn between what is right and what feels right.
It’s about love. It’s about compromise. It’s about life.

In this Booktalk, I discuss the unique writing style of this book, my thoughts on love and destiny, and the concept of foil characters. A foil is a character who contrasts with another character; typically with the protagonist, in order to better highlight or differentiate certain qualities of the protagonist.
