In this video, our volunteer Fabio shows you how to tie the "Yellow Sally" dry fly. Yellow Sally stoneflies inhabit most clean rivers, especially oxygen-rich chalk streams containing stony bottoms. This one is supposed to represent an imago laying eggs on the water surface. This is a dry fly that you can use to target trout. You can use it together with a dropper nymph and use the Yellow Sally as a fly and as an indicator.
Materials list:
Thread: 140 or 70 denier yellow
Hook: Straight or curved dry fly hook 2XL. Size 12 – 16. I used a size 12 Daiichi 1280 hook
Hot spot: Red floss or red dubbing
Body: Ultrafine light Cahill or Yellow dubbing.
Wing: Bleached elk hair
Thorax: Ultrafine light Cahill or Yellow dubbing.
Hackle: Brown or ginger saddle hackle
Fly tying skill set rating = Intermediate +
