I Visited MANNINGTREE In Essex & It Absolutely BLEW ME AWAY!

My adventures continue as this week I explore another hidden gem, but this time it’s not (technically) on the coast – today I am in Manningtree in Essex.  Based on the River Stour estuary, located close by to Colchester, this place absolutely blew my mind, and to top it off it’s one of the SMALLEST towns in all of England.  In this 4K walking tour I’ll be taking you along the riverside and into the town as I explore all there is to see and do. If you’re looking for beautiful scenery, good coffee, historic buildings and of course, pubs, this is the place to visit this summer!   
 
I start off at the spooky historical landmark Mistley Towers, where there once stood a Georgian church but now all that’s left is a tower at each end.  Walk with me down The Walls – the riverside road leading into Manningtree itself with spectacular views (and brilliant for a dog walk!), then it’s down to Manningtree’s very own mini beach – always amazing when a town like this has it’s own seaside-feel despite not being actually on the coast!  We explore the high street, lined with independent shops and cafes before having a Sunday roast at The Crown pub and of course a refreshing beer.  After lunch we check out the old Georgian buildings in the surrounding streets and finally visit Manningtree Emporium, a huge store of antique, vintage and retro treasures!    
 
Perfect for a day trip or a short break, come and see why Manningtree is one of the best places to visit this summer and quite possibly the best hidden gem in all of Essex!
