German Ford Capri Factory Racing Body Kit | Bubble Top Impala | Blacktop Nationals Car Show

On this episode of My Classic Car, Dennis travels to downtown Wichita, Kansas for the Blacktop Nationals, where we catch cars from all around (it IS the "NATIONALS" after all), like a '66 Chevy Truck, a German Capri, a '61 Bubble Top Impala, a '38 Ford Hot Rod Pickup, and a '63 Dodge Custom 880. Wichita it the aviation capitol of the world, which means there's a lot of hi-tech gear heads around hear that know how to work the metal, leading to some of the best customs around. This torch red '66 Chevy for example, smoothed and shaved all over, has the most amazing woodworking lining the bed! Flames handmade out of inlaid wood veneer, as ornate as anything you've ever seen. Absolute perfection in the finish, all straight as an arrow, supercharged, and done in the garage...of a guy who makes airplanes. Another interesting ride, this '74 Capri has the German Ford setup and body kit designed for European Sedan Class B racing. With air dams front and rear, flares, custom and modernized interior, it's now powered by a juiced up Ford 3.8. Again, you'll never see one done quite like this! On the custom rod side, this '61 Bubble Top Impala will catch your eye from a distance. With a '62 front end that will give you a double take, but still looks right, the gold color draws you in to the gorgeous house of color silver / candy base that covers the roof and trim, replacing the chrome that was originally there. One of the prettiest cars GM ever built, this one takes it to the next level! The '38 Ford truck, again modified all over, but again in subtle ways that really just look right. Sure , it's a hot rod so it's supposed to be custom, but to achieve such perfect fitment and lines takes handiwork along with creativity. Finally, on the more stick side, this '63 Dodge Custom 880 has some cool lines and curves in the body, but the stock instrument cluster is one for the ages. And the rear quarter, with complex curves all over, reflect a design era that doesn't exist anymore.

Every single car featured is just perfect, clean, and detailed even in the places you don't expect them to be. And they weren't the only ones. It made it hard to decide just 5! What a show!
