Hanauma Bay & Bellows Air Force Base. Hanauma Bay: A Snorkeler's Paradise
Hanauma Bay is more than just a beach; it's a protected marine ecosystem teeming with vibrant coral and tropical fish. Before you dive in, remember these key tips. Reservations are required for non-residents and can be difficult to get, so book your spot online up to two days in advance, right at 7:00 a.m. HST. Be sure to arrive on time for your reservation, as no late entries are allowed. All visitors must watch a short educational video to learn how to protect the fragile marine life. Don't forget to pack reef-safe sunscreen to help preserve the coral. The bay is also home to the "Toilet Bowl," a natural pool that is now closed for safety reasons.
The Drive to Bellows Air Force Base
After our snorkel adventure, take a scenic drive along the coast to Bellows Air Force Base. This area features a long stretch of white sand and clear turquoise water. The Bellows Field Beach Park is open to the public on weekends and federal holidays, offering a peaceful escape from the crowds. While Bellows is a military installation, the public beach park is accessible to everyone on these days.
