Over the years restoring a 1960 Chevy Impala Bel Air or Biscayne has become more challenging. Repairing the Impala upper door or long quarter molding is one of those challenging parts since GM made these trim pieces with a built in steel backing plate. I’m sure GM was not thinking long term when they designed a stainless steel molding to have a mild steel backing plate. Clearly the molding will outlive the insert but to make matters worse, they decided to press the steel plates into the molding making it nearly impossible to remove. Fast forward 70 years and now you have rusted out plate that has been locked into the molding.

In this video I'm going to show you how to reinstall the moldings with ease using NEW clips that we are reproducing.

Warning, you will need to do some preliminary work to your molding so we recommend holding off on doing any straightening and polishing until after we prep the molding. Depending on the severity of the metal insert and the studs will determine how much work you will need to do.
