The first national Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinical Care Standard was launched by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care on 17 October 2024.
The new Standard provides guidance on how to improve care for people living with COPD, in both community and hospital settings. Although there is no cure for the disease, a range of interventions can ease symptoms, reduce exacerbations and improve quality of life.
An expert panel discusses the importance of accurate diagnosis with spirometry, pulmonary rehabilitation and a step-wise approach to pharmacotherapy.
This webcast is relevant to all healthcare professionals involved in the management of people living with COPD, especially general practitioners, nurses, physiotherapists and respiratory medicine specialists.
Hosted by award-winning science presenter Dr Jonica Newby, the expert panel includes:
• Dr Lee Fong – GP and Medical Advisor, Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care
• Professor Jennifer Alison – Professor of Respiratory Physiotherapy, University of Sydney
• Dr Kerry Hancock – General Practitioner and Chair, RACGP Respiratory Medicine Specific Interests Group
• Ms Mary Roberts – Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultant, Westmead Hospital
• Associate Professor Natasha Smallwood – Consultant Respiratory Physician, The Alfred Hospital
