This reserve is basically a collection of foreign currencies, including dollars and euros, and assets like gold and silver, held by the central bank of a country.
Money is used for shopping in the Bangladeshi market. But international trade like import and export is not done in money. It is done in different currencies, including dollars and euros. Similarly, foreign loans and remittances also come in different currencies. However, due to the influence of the US dollar worldwide, foreign currencies are mostly converted into dollars. Reserves are used to keep the country's economy stable, repay foreign debts, and maintain the balance of import and export.
