On Sunday, famed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle, were found dead in their Los Angeles home in what police are investigating as a homicide. Within hours, President Donald Trump issued a statement reacting to the news — and it stopped me cold.

In this video, I read Trump’s full statement aloud and walk through why it’s not just wrong, but deeply classless. We still don’t know what happened. We don’t know who is responsible. And yet the president chose to speculate, politicize, and make a brutal tragedy about himself.

This isn’t about policy. It’s not tariffs or the border or the Constitution. It’s about empathy, decency, and the basic standards we should expect from our leaders — especially in moments of real human loss.

You don’t have to agree with Rob Reiner’s politics to recognize that two people being murdered is a tragedy. You don’t even have to like him. What matters is how a president responds when faced with death — and what it says about the character we’ve come to accept, excuse, or even celebrate.
