The Salman Ali Agha-led side began with a five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe, before defeating Sri Lanka by seven wickets. After a couple of successful games bowling first, the hosts challenged themselves to bat first, put runs on the board and defend. They were successful in that, too, as they handed the Chevrons a 69-run hammering and became the first team to reach the finale.

On the other hand, the Lankan Lions were stunned by the Sikandar Raza-led unit in their first game by 67 runs. Then the Men in Green brutally beat them by 7 wickets as the Dasun Shanaka-led outfit didn't have much time to heal.

With the tournament on the line, Sri Lanka had to come back in the second round. Pathum Nissanka's inspiring 98* against Zimbabwe ensured Sri Lanka's survival as they defeated the African nation by 9 wickets.

Now, Pakistan had nothing to worry about as they faced Sri Lanka in the final round robin game on Thursday. But both Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe's fate was relying on that game.

Put into bat first, Sri Lanka managed to post an excellent 184/5 in 20 overs. Despite losing Nissanka early on, Kamil Mishara stepped up with a 48-ball 76. Kusal Mendis looked good, scoring 40 off 23. Janith Liyanage struggled but remained not out on a run-a-ball 24, while skipper Shanaka came up with a handy cameo.

Abrar Ahmed was the pick of Pakistan's bowlers as he claimed 2/28. Salman Mirza and Saim Ayub took a wicket each. Naseem Shah is expected to replace one of the quicks for the final after the right-arm seamer was rested in the last game.

Pakistan were in all sorts of trouble when they were reduced to 43/4. Saim Ayub managed only a breezy cameo. Sahibzada Farhan failed just when he was showing consistency with some good outings. A big jolt came when Babar Azam was out for a duck. The leading T20I run-scorer has blown hot and cold recently. No fireworks from Fakhar Zaman, and this time, he batted at four.

Skipper Salman Ali Agha, who has been top-class this calendar year, led from the front and remained unbeaten on 63 off 44 balls, but failed to take his team over the line, courtesy of Sri Lanka's Dushmantha Chameera. Agha rebuilt the innings with Usman Khan's help. Then the man in form, both with bat and ball, Mohammad Nawaz, turned up with a quick cameo.

However, Chameera was too good in the end as the speedster defended 10 off the last over, which also saw Agha off strike for the last four balls and took Sri Lanka to the final with a thrilling six-run win, handing Pakistan their first defeat of the competition and knocking Zimbabwe out of the tournament.

With 4/20, Chameera stole the show. Wanindu Hasaranga did his bit, while Eshan Malinga, despite going for plenty, snapped a couple of wickets to keep his side in the hunt.

It has been a tough tour for Sri Lanka, but they have the chance to end it on a high. Both teams have similar strengths and weaknesses. Pakistan will be ready for the Lankan challenge this time around, as this game holds a lot of stakes.
