Health care is becoming more expensive, and for families caring for aging parents, the costs can be overwhelming.
As part of our Premium Pain series, we’re looking at how the rising cost of health care is affecting Americans, especially family caregivers caught between supporting older parents and managing their own household expenses.
Kathy Hempstead, a senior policy officer with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, explains why Medicare does not cover most long-term or in-home care, why long-term care insurance is out of reach for most families and how gaps in Medicaid and private coverage are putting more pressure on caregivers.
