Brno, the Czech Republic's second-largest city, received a horse-drawn tramway as early as 1869, followed by a steam tramway in 1886. The conversion to electric operation began in 1900.
To modernize its fleet, the transport company acquired various trams from CKD Tatra starting in 1968: initially the T3 and K2, later the T6A5 and KT8D5. Numerous vehicles were modernized starting in the 1990s and (except for the K2 type) are still in daily service today.
In the summer of 2025, an operational peculiarity occurred: Due to several construction projects requiring more bidirectional trams than were actually available, three T3 sets were deployed, coupled end-to-end, on the line x12. Such Tatra sets are now a rarity, but were used in the past at construction sites in various cities.
