Lyre's father is Stoick the Vast and her mother was the Princess of Ireland. The two were joined together in marriage to preserve an alliance between Berk and Ireland. Valka and Stoick put their feelings aside for the safety of their home and people, unaware their love would be reunited again. Valka soon found herself becoming friends with the Irish Princess, due to Valka felt a strong level of connection with her and even told the princess how she loved dragons. The princess shocked and excited to hear that someone on Berk also loved dragons as much as she began to explain about her dragon. The princess had a gift. She could understand all dragons, she could see glimpses of their memories and their desires. This was something she shared and tried to teach to Valka, often telling her, “You don’t need a gift to understand those around you.”

Drago and his army came to Berk on a vengeance hearing of the half Irish half Viking child that was born. All of the sudden a number of dragons came out of the shadows and began attacking the people of Berk. Lyre’s mother was too weak, after just giving birth and told Valka to take Lyre to safety. At the same time Drago landed his ships and thus began his attack on Berk. When he finally found Lyre’s mother, he killed her.
Now Drago turned his attention on the child. When he spotted Valka who was carrying Lyre in her arms and trying to run away from the danger. Drago pointed them out to the rest of his men. She ran as fast as she could but was eventually and accidentally knocked to the ground by the Irish who were riding dragons. Before Drago and his men spotted the Irish, a few of the dragons had fallen on top of his men. (The Irish people had been keeping a close eye on Berk, as soon as they discovered the news of the princess being with child. This was not out of distrust but out of concern. They feared there would be those, who may wish to do harm to the child and princess.) Lyre was wistfully picked up and taken back to her homeland where the Irish thought she would be safer. The people of Berk never knew what happened to her. When Valka awoke from her dazed state she panicked and ultimately began screaming for Stoick’s help. Stoick came racing down the hill to where Valka stood. Her arms were empty of the child she tried so hard to protect. Stoick’s eyes began to water and then immediately, he started running back up the hill towards where his wife had been, Valka was following close behind. Stoick upon entering dropped to his knees. Valka whispered “NO!” Having lost both wife and child, Stoick began to resent the dragons even more.

The princess’s dragon was o’halloucian who had been handed down to Lyre at the time of her mother’s death. When Lyre’s mother married Stoick she had to leave him in Ireland, for the people of Berk still hated dragons and she didn’t want to jeopardize the alliance. Stoick never knew of her dragon. O’Halloucian saved Lyre, because he viewed her as an alpha and friend. She respected him and often referred to him as her only true friend and guardian figure for he would always lift and carry her away from danger even when she was a young girl. She truly believed he should always remain wild and independent, in which this gave him the freedom to come and go as he pleases.
She often felt that Ireland’s council men only had their own interests at heart and she thought they viewed her as a naive young woman. When she discovered she has a half-brother who cares about her she doesn’t feel so alone like she did before. She even befriends his friends and their dragons. Lyre’s dragon is a skrill which is the same type of dragon Hiccup and his friends could not control.
