Rajendran Narayanan is a social scientist whose primary area of research and action has been in the implementation of rural social policies such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and other social protection measures for informal sector workers. Rajendran is part of several campaigns such as those involved in the promotion of constitutional values, right to work, right to food etc. He is keen on understanding what the massive surge in data and an over-reliance on digital technologies mean for citizenship, participatory democracy and government accountability. Over the years, he has held academic positions in universities in India and abroad and has taught an array of courses in mathematics, statistics and some non-traditional social science courses such as ‘Data & Society’, 'Development as Freedom' and 'Politics & Ethics of Data.'
