Most of the commercially important woods are obtained from the following gymnosperms plants.
Cedrus deodara (Deodar) and Pinus wallichiana (Kail) are the most important and strongest timbers of north India. Both are resistant to insect pests due to which it is used for making railway sleepers, doors, furniture, houseboats.
Agathis australis (Kauri pine) is the the most important and largest timbers of New Zealand and used in the construction of doors, windowpanes, and boats.
Sequoia sempervirens (redwood) wood is used in railway sleepers, poles, etc.
Podocarpus falcatus wood is generally used in manufacturing of plywood.
Taxus baccata wood is very durable and used in archery.
