Quinn Morgendorffer's Shallow Reflection

Sibling rivalry has been a tried and true source of conflict in fiction for decades… just because you share flesh and blood with someone doesn't mean you're always going to see eye to eye. And if there's one character who knows this all too well, it's Daria Morgendorffer. Over the course of her eponymous MTV series, Daria was almost constantly at odds with her younger sister Quinn. Popular, anti-intellectual, and often obnoxiously superficial, Quinn represents just about everything Daria detests about the culture she was raised in. But while the show often revels in having Daria ridicule Quinn for this, it also takes the time to really examine WHY Quinn behaves the way she does – and the role her family life played in shaping that persona. When you really peel back the layers, you start to realize that Quinn Morgendorffer isn't nearly as shallow as she'd have you believe.
