Here's a conceptual illustration of time and space being distorted, as in General Relativity.
The actual distortion occurs in 4D spacetime, and this is merely an illustration made as an attempt to improve on the typical "rubber sheet" model. The space and time distortion were exaggerated for illustration purposes.
