Carlos Alomar, the guitarist who played on more Bowie albums than anyone else, returns for the second part of our interview. Alomar first worked with Bowie in 1974 and co-wrote “Fame” with Bowie and John Lennon. He went on to serve as Bowie’s music director for decades, shaping the sound of the Young Americans band, the Berlin Trilogy, and tours from Station to Station through Glass Spider. Beyond that, his guitar appears on Bowie albums into the 2000s, including Reality. In this conversation, Carlos shares stories about recording “Fame,” reflects on Bowie’s restless curiosity and Buddhist outlook, and explains how Bowie avoided repeating himself by treating life as an odyssey. We also discuss the meaning behind “B2B,” shorthand for his upcoming Back to Berlin Tour 2025. The tour reunites Alomar with bassist George Murray and honors their late bandmate Dennis Davis, performing songs from Low, Heroes, and Lodger for the first time in decades, alongside Kevin Armstrong and an outstanding band.
