In this video you will see a very are Savoyard from the German company Polyphon made around 1880 - 1900 in Leipzig. It is a polychrome terracotta statue representing a organ grinder setting in motion a music box with interchangeable disks of 40 cm in the shape of a little theater in which monkeys (a violin player and two dancers) are animated.

This Savoyard style 100 is a very rare version. The current version (simple box with decorative organ pipes) is represented by 5 or 6 examples in the United States.

When you insert a coin in the slot located above the music box, the Savoyard automaton is activated and you can listen to "The jewel song" from the Faust by Charles Gounod (stereo recording).
