This island is why we sail around the world 🏝️| Hidden Waterfalls, Coral Reefs & Fijian Magic

Fiji continues to surprise us at every turn — and this week, we discover just how magical the island of Kandavu really is.

We drop anchor off the small village of Vunisea, a place that instantly captures our hearts. From wandering the quiet streets to stumbling into the lushest jungle walks that end on white sand beaches, every step feels like a postcard.

But the real adventure begins when Connor spots smoke rising in the distance — something that makes any Californian’s heart skip a beat. Thankfully, the island isn’t on fire… so we set off on a hike to find a waterfall we’ve only heard rumors about. After hours of hiking, false turns, and a few swims in the wrong places, we finally find it: the most incredible waterfall we’ve ever seen. Connor, of course, can’t resist a few backflips, and we wash off the salt under the rushing water — totally worth the effort.

The next morning, we’re invited to Sunday church — a rare and beautiful experience. The voices and harmonies move us to tears, even though we can’t understand a word. And as if Fiji hadn’t given us enough already, we spend the afternoon on one of the most breathtaking beaches we’ve ever seen.

Under the surface, the coral is alive and vibrant — a kaleidoscope of color that reminds us why we sail. We finish the day sharing dinner aboard Alivo with a local family who has shown us the true heart of Fiji. They catch a few fish to take home, we share laughter and stories, and realize that this — right here — is what the journey is all about.
