I'm never going there again!! Magado Crater in Kenya.

Magado Crater Trip

This is a trip we did sometime in 2023, just took me longer to edit.
We, part of the Nyeri offroad bikers decided to take on this here challenge of riding to witness one of the most remote craters in Kenya.

It is by far one of the lesser known crater lakes.

The participants in the video include:
Yours truly(Red Tiger 150cc),
King'ori(Beth ironhorse 180cc)
Ken (Boxer 150cc)
Davy (Dayun 200cc)
James(Pillioned by David in the red riding suit)
Kim (Black sports Bike we rode with from Naromoru to Isiolo Junction)

Narrations:
We set off from Nyeri all the way to Naromoru with Davy.
Waited for and met up with King'ori and Ken at Naromoru.
This is the part where we also got to meet Kim for the very first time and welcome him to the Nyeri Bikers fold. He was headed in our direction but we parted ways at the Isiolo Meru Nanyuki highway Junction.

We picked up James, a fellow biker who would also serve as our tourguide for the day, somewhere near Maua and set off for the Crater.

Due to insecurity concerns in the region, the riding party had decided to use the Meru backroute as the Samburu road was deemed unsafe, concerns that were raised by the Administration Police manning the only roadblock.

Ps His words were don't you dare try using that route, go back home using the Meru route. Some Samburu bandits had been spotted along the way hence the need for exercising caution. A route that meant we'd spend over 70+kms just going round again.

Making it to the crater was an interesting tedious feat! Soft sand, best known as fesh fesh, would make our bikes suddenly sway from side to side dangerously unsettling you. The occasional rocky stretched left nothing to be admired.

The hills looked all the more majestic but, we literally didn't know where the crater was specifically! Just hills dotted all over with no sign of a crater anywhere. By 5:30PM we had not yet located the crater, about to give up, we made a half hearted attempt to trudge on a km forward and start our return leg dissapointed.
Turns out the very short hill we were standing beneath that we were standing beneath and looked like it was too short to house anything was the very thing we were looking for!

The roads have no signs to indicate where to find the crater!

On our return leg, Davy's engine seized.
Crankshaft kaput!
Luckily we'd made it past the flat lands and were able to tow him to the nearest town to have the bike fixed.

The beauty of these chinese bikes is the availability of skilled mechanics and parts. The engine was torn down and rebuild.

Rest assured we made it home in time to have 2 hours of sleep as we reported for our day jobs the following day.

We made it home at 3AM!!
