Video Content: Part 233-AWOL Series-Flashback continues as I reflect on my Navy career, post-Navy life, and experiences overall. While visiting an elderly friend who lives alone, many topics were discussed, including emotional intelligence (EI). EI involves understanding and managing emotions while recognizing and responding to others' emotions. Confidence is the belief in one's abilities, allowing for risk-taking and goal pursuit. Self-esteem, a broader sense of self-worth, is influenced by both EI and confidence. Key EI components include self-awareness (understanding one's own emotions), self-regulation (managing them), empathy (understanding others' emotions), and social skills (interacting effectively). For instance, calming oneself when stressed or actively listening to understand a colleague’s perspective demonstrates EI. Believing in one's abilities boosts confidence, which enhances self-worth. Strong self-esteem helps manage emotions, embrace feedback, and nurture healthy relationships, core aspects of EI. By understanding and managing emotions, individuals feel more capable and in control, positively affecting confidence, self-worth, and interactions with others.
