A, not so quick, introduction to phentyoping. Outlining its uses and importance in pre-transfusion testing as well as it's limitations.
During the presentation I discuss Genotyping- I would just like to re-iterate the point that I was trying to get across:
When we perform Rh phenotyping we often use this as a way of guessing the patient's genotype, this can be seen when we use the Fisher-Race and Wiener Terminology to describe the results that we get. As these use the most likely genetic expressions that would lead to the Phenotype that has been determined. When we are testing a phenotype we do not see what recessive genes are present so we will go with the most common examples of these to give us this terminology used, which is why sometimes we could assume, from the patient's phenotype, that they have one genotype, but when genotyping is performed it differs slightly. The actual expression and phenotype present should not differ between the techniques. Hopefully that is a clearer explanation of what I was getting at!
