Taking a city bus in Phnom Penh, Cambodia! Routes, fares, timetables!

This video is about a trip we took to Ta Khmau, the capital of Kandal Province, using Phnom Penh’s city bus network. As you can see, it’s cheap, clean, and efficient!

The fare for the public buses is 1,500 Riel or $0.37 USD per trip regardless of distance. You can pay with cash (Riel only) or ABA transfer. Travel on the bus network is free for people over 70, children less than a metre in height, people with a disability, monks, teachers, students, and factory workers.

Bus frequency depends on the route, but varies from every 10 minutes to every 30 minutes. As far as I can tell, there’s no timetable. As of 2025, I think there are 21 routes, however some of them seem to be just extensions to modifications to older routes. My advice is to use the route map to get a general idea of the routes available and where you might want to go, then switch to Google Maps on your phone. Phnom Penh’s bus network is now integrated with Google Maps, but this functionality works better on mobile than it does on desktop. The buses run every day from 05:30am to 20:30pm.
