As part of Steve Ballmer's keynote at CES 2011, he announced that the next generation of Windows would include a version designed to run on SOCs (systems on a chip) from Intel, AMD, and ARM licensees such as TI and nVidia. The move to ARM based processors was a big surprise, and just to make it clear how serious MS is about it, Ballmer and company demonstrated the current generation of Windows (7) and Office running natively on various ARM processor devices. The devices were mostly development boards, but they were able to show creation of a Powerpoint slide, and in a jab at Apple's limited printing options for the iPad they also showed printing via an ARM native print driver.
