That night in the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, the jungle was completely silent. We were all alone, just two people in Chuka Beach Campus in the dense forest. The clock had passed 9 pm, and the only sound breaking the silence was the alarm call of a spotted deer tiger somewhere close to our water hut in Pilibhit Chuka Beach.

Suddenly, we heard something unusual, a continuous deer alarm call. Anyone who has spent time in the wild knows what that means. Deer never call like that unless they have sensed danger. Our hearts started racing. In that darkness, every sound felt louder, every shadow looked alive.

Early morning, the tigress walked gracefully near our Chuka Beach campus main gate, her cubs following closely behind. She paused by the gate as if guarding her territory, while the deer called frantically from the other side of the forest. For a moment, it felt as if the jungle had frozen – no sound, no movement, only the powerful presence of the tiger family.

We felt afraid yet blessed to witness such a rare sight. This wasn’t just another safari; it was a reminder that the jungle truly belongs to its wild residents. The experience of being alone in the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve at night, hearing deer calls, and then seeing a tigress with her cubs at Chuka Beach Gate is unforgettable.
