By the time you recruit Legion in Mass Effect 2, the main story is nearly over. So many players will have already completed Tali’s loyalty mission before getting the Geth as a squadmate. But if you wait to do Tali’s mission until AFTER you’ve recruited Legion… AND you bring him along as a companion to the trial, you will unlock a lot of hidden dialogue and unique interactions.

Things get tense the moment you arrive on the ship. Instead of a cordial greeting before being escorted to Admiral Raan, the Quarian envoy greets you with weapons drawn.

As you walk through the ship, you will overhear other Quarians in total disbelief that Tali is just casually hanging out with a live Geth.

When the trial starts, things get heated again. Usually Admiral Koris objects to Shepard’s presence at the hearing, but this time he will protest against Legion instead.

Admiral Koris is the biggest advocate for peace with the Geth. He feels that the Quarians wronged them when they tried to deactivate and destroy the Geth three centuries earlier. When you speak with Koris, you can ask Legion to chime in on the possibility for peace between the Geth and Quarians.

Admiral Xen on the other hand is more interested in performing experiments on Geth. She’s been performing questionable experiments since she was a kid apparently. When you speak with Xen this time she will ask about the possibility of experimenting on Legion, which leads to one of my favorite lines from him: "This platform is not available for experimentation"

Unfortunately, Admirals Raan and Gerrel don’t have any unique dialogue regarding Legion specifically. However, Shepard will be able to comment on different factions within the Geth, having spoken to Legion about the Geth heretics.

Bringing Legion to the Migrant Fleet also changes some dialogue in Mass Effect 3. After the Geth Dreadnought mission, when Legion comes aboard the Normandy, Admiral Raan will recognize Legion.

It’s such a small detail in the grand scheme of things, but I absolutely love that Bioware included this in the game. Most RPGs just don’t acknowledge your companions and any conflict that might exist between them and a faction you are speaking with during a quest. Like say, if you bring an android onto a ship full of minigun-wielding fanatics who want to destroy all androids, they won’t even give a shit.

But of course the Quarians would freak out if you showed up with an active Geth unit on their flotilla. The Geth literally drove them off their homeworld and turned them into a nomadic space faring people who have to live inside suits to keep from getting sick and dying. Bioware recognized this and wrote it into the story for this side quest, which makes the game world much more immersive.
