Man arrested after officials claim he shot both of his parents

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A 24-year-old man is charged with murder after his mom was found dead, and his father was injured, in Colleton County on Monday.

Deputies and detectives with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the 200 block of Wesley Grove Road in Cottageville at 1:51 a.m. after receiving word of a shooting. At the scene, Evan Wright, 24, surrendered without incident and was taken into custody, law enforcement said.

After a preliminary investigation, authorities claim Wright fatally shot his mother. His father sustained an injury from a gunshot that was considered "non-life-threatening," according to local law enforcement.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue also responded to the scene, where they helped treat the father for his injuries.
