In Igboland, 'Ikoro' refers to the largest of the wooden drum. In poetry, it is called the 'The Voice of The gods'
The Ikoro dance from Amaudi, Obizi, Ezinihitte, Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria is one of the most prestigious traditional dances in Igboland, normally played only during Udi day, Age grade outing and other important events in Obizi. The instruments are so heavy that the dance is hardly held outside the community. Ikoro can be danced by everyone- adults, children, male, female, guests etc.
It's so melodious that even a stranger will easily start nodding to the choreographed steps
