We begin in Igoumenitsa, a port town nestled on Greece’s rugged northwestern coast, where we drive aboard the Superfast III ferry. The ferry departs with the sun setting behind the green slopes of the Pindus Mountains, and the silhouettes of the Ionian Islands — including Corfu, steeped in Homeric myths — drift past as we sail northwest across the Adriatic Sea.
Arriving at dawn in Ancona, Italy, our wheels hit the ground and we roll out of the ferry belly into the heart of the Marche region. From there, it’s a cross-country cruise that cuts through Italy’s spine — starting with the SS76, winding through Falconara Marittima, then inland past the medieval town of Fabriano, once a hub of papermaking since the 1200s. We pass through the lush Apennine Mountains, slicing through tunnels and valleys where wolves and legends still roam.
On to Umbria, the green heart of Italy. We breeze past Nocera Umbra and Spoleto, ancient towns dotted with Roman arches and hilltop fortresses. The route continues on SS318, SS3bis, and SS675, skirting the mystical town of Terni, where St. Valentine’s bones are said to rest.
Reaching Vetralla in Lazio, we hit Tarquinia, a UNESCO site famed for Etruscan tombs and frescoes that whisper of a civilization older than Rome. Fields of sunflowers, cypress trees, and sleepy villages roll by until we reach Civitavecchia, Rome’s historic sea gate.
We board the Grimaldi Lines ferry bound for Spain as the Tyrrhenian Sea gives way to open Mediterranean waters. We skirt the western coasts of Corsica and Sardinia, their mountains and cliffs glowing in the sunset. We cross into the Balearic Sea, passing near Mallorca — once a pirate haven and now a yacht-filled paradise.
As the sun sets the next day, we dock at Barcelona, Spain’s city of art, chaos, and Gaudí. Next morning from there, it’s a scenic drive south along the AP-7, hugging the Costa Blanca and slicing through Murcia, before finally reaching Mar de Pulpí on the Almería coast — a tranquil beachfront town where cactus-studded hills meet the sea.
This dashcam video isn't just a drive—it's a layered journey through time, myth, history, and natural beauty. Roads once marched by Romans, ferry routes once sailed by traders and raiders, landscapes shaped by gods and geology—all now seen through the windshield of a wandering pickup truck.
🎥 Watch, ride, and relive the full trip.
