In traditional Kenyan societies, wounds were treated using local knowledge and practices passed down through generations. Medicinal plants were important for wound care, with different herbs and leaves used for their healing and antiseptic properties. For example, aloe vera leaves were commonly applied to wounds to help them heal and reduce the risk of infection. Other plants like African potato and devil's claw were also used for their anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Traditional healers also used techniques like using honey as a wound dressing, applying ash or charcoal to wounds to promote drying and prevent infection, and using animal fats or oils as moisturizers. These practices were deeply rooted in the cultural beliefs and experiences of the communities. While some of these practices continue today, many have been replaced or modified by modern medical methods.
