For todays lesson our topic is Parts of a Weld
For Fillet Weld:
1. Root Of Weld = The point at which the bottom of the weld intersect the base metal surfaces.
2. Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) = That portion of the base metal which has not been melted, but the structure properties which have been altered by the heat of welding or cutting.
3. Throat of Weld = Shortest distance from the root weld to the face of weld.
4. Face of Weld = a weld of approximately triangular cross-section joining two surfaces approximately at the right angles to each other in a Lap joint, Tee joint, or Corner joint.
5. Toe Of Weld = the junction between the face of the weld and the base metal.
6. Leg of a weld = The distance from the root of the joint to the toe of the weld.
7. Base metal = the metal to be welded or cut.
For Groove Weld
8. Root Gap/Opening = The Points at which the bottom of the weld to be joint, at the root of the joint.
9. Root Face
10. Groove Face
11. Copping / Reinforcement
12. Groove Angle
13. Bevel Angle
