I wanted to replace the tailgate trim panel with something a little more suitable for food preparation etc when camping. The original panel was well used, damaged and had been wet multiple times, so was due for replacement.
I started by tracing the profile of the existing panel onto the tailgate. Then I remove the panel and mark some datum lines which allow me to draw a more accurately dimensioned sketch. I then use this rough sketch to draw the panel using CAD, Export the DXF into CAM, Program all my tool paths etc, Then load onto my CNC router and begin cutting.
The tailgate panel is made from 3mm ACP(Aluminium composite panel).
