The Deadliest Artillery Ever Made

This is the most terrifying artillery weapon ever made.

There’s been some crazy contenedores in history from Gustavs cannon. The largest arament ever made with shells weighing as much as 3 Land Rover Discoveries or the US’ Rail Gun, firing sabot rounds at speeds of over 5300mph, piercing anything it comes into contact with.

But there’s one that trumps them all and this is it. It may look unassuming but this 280mm cannon is a city killer and it’s called The Atomic Cannon

Instead of normal shells it fired 15-20 kiloton nukes, making them more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. It had a range of 7-20 miles and could be transported on the back of a truck weighing over 80 tons, almost 1 and a half times the weight of an M1 Abrams, requiring a 5-7 man team just to fire it.

The cannon test was codenamed “Grable”, the phonetic letter for G standing for Gun. It’s the only time in US history they actually fired a nuclear artillery shell. It travelled in thea ir for 19 seconds detonating 6.25 miles away from the Gun.

It was an airblast explosion that obliterated houses, trees, cars and busses. The US made 20 of these cannons costing $800k each. They were deployed in Europe and Korea but none ever actually saw combat and were retired in 1963.
