This is John Lennon’s original bass track for “Fixing a Hole,” presented without Paul McCartney’s later bass overdub, which was added to smooth out certain imperfections in the performance. Even so, these nuances do nothing to diminish the epic character of the song - if anything, they reveal its human side, ha!.
The exact bass instrument remains unconfirmed. It is generally believed that Lennon may have used either George Harrison’s Burns bass, a studio Fender Precision, or even Paul McCartney’s Rickenbacker (possibly played upside down, which could help explain some of the "irregularities" heard in the part).
The basic track consisted of Ringo Starr on drums, Paul McCartney on harpsichord, George Harrison on maracas, and John Lennon on bass guitar, at Regent Sound Studios.
