Bangladesh News | Bangladesh Halts Yarn Imports From India - Explained

Bangladesh has stopped yarn imports from India amidst strained ties between the two nations which deteriorated with the comments from the Chief Advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh regarding India’s northeast during his visit to China. While a meeting took place between PM Narendra Modi and Chief Advisor Md Yunus on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit, India conveyed a stern message especially on Yunus’s comments. Soon after, India withdrew transhipment facilities for Bangladesh due to significant congestion and logistical delays. Following that, the latest development is the ban on yarn imports from India which is a key product for Bangladesh’s textile industry. Yarn imports through the land ports at Benapole, Bhomra, Sonamasjid, Banglabandha and Burimari have been stopped.
