Stegosaurus: An Iconic Dinosaur of the Jurassic Period | Dinosaur Documentary

One dinosaur, however, stands out from the Jurassic crowd as being one of the most famous and well represented dinosaurs, full stop. Stegosaurus. The name alone should invoke a strong image of a large, bulky, quadrupedal herbivore; a huge torso ending in a tiny head. Identifiable by two rows of pointed plates running down its back, and a long tail armed with four long, spear-like spikes, this is a staple of museums, dinosaur documentaries, books and plastic toys the world over.

However, as we will be exploring in today's video, there is much more below the surface that can be examined within this awesome feat of evolution. Today, we will be taking a deep dive into the life, evolution and discovery of Stegosaurus, examining just how it used its strange adaptations to flourish in the unpredictable and ever changing world of the Jurassic. We will look at where it lived, how it became extinct, and how it was ultimately dug up by scientists millions upon millions of years later.
