Come with me on a photo adventure with my Sigma 150-600mm lens & Canon M50.
I went out to a park - hoping to see an owl later in the evening just before sunset. I didn’t have high expectations because I’ve literally never seen one before. However, two nights previously I had a dream of an owl in a tree and that I photographed it.
Having that dream, I was determined to see one. I was enjoying the fall trail, watching the starlings and the abundance of gulls flying by the water. As the sun started to go down, I decided to head to a more quiet area near a creek. I felt the instinct to keep walking to a certain area and I’m glad I listened.
I heard the wildest sound I’ve ever heard before and had no idea what call that was. Initially I thought it was a human whistling. Lo and behold, there was a big shadow up a in a tree in a distance. I immediately grabbed my lens and monopod to see what it was.
It was a great horned owl! I was so excited that I couldn’t figure how to keep my monopod steady (hence the shaky footage).
This was a truly magical night for me to witness.
I can fully admit the Sigma did not perform that well under low light as the aperture only goes down to 5. My ISO was absolutely cranked. There was only so much I could do but I still got some decent shots just before it became darker!
