Fly Tying Tutorial - Luke's Streams Hopper

In this tutorial, Luke van den Heever shares his favorite hopper pattern. Luke uses it predominantly on the Cape Streams, but we’ve used it on the lower Vaal sight fishing to smallmouth yellowfish and in Rhodes prospecting for big rainbows. The fly has everything you want in a good hopper – it is buoyant and has that Madam-X profile.
Luke also shared his knowledge with all our tying friends at our Social Tying Event on 15 August. It was an evening filled with deer hair, foam, beer, and most importantly, some good laughs.
Although this hopper pattern isn’t the easiest fly in the world to tie, it will help you practice and conquer tying in deer hair in a forward position in order to for the bullet head.
