In the heart of North West England, 10 miles south of Preston, stands the Preston England Temple, on the outskirts of Chorley.
Completed in 1998, next to the M61 motorway, this modern building stands 48m meters tall and covers 32 acres. Distinct olympia white granite walls from Sardinia and zinc roof are quite a spectacle on the horizon. The site was selected in part, because it "overlooked rolling hills to the east and a greenbelt area to the north and had easy access to the regional highway system".
When construction was completed, a two-week public open house in May 1998 attracted 123,000 visitors, and members from 24 stakes volunteered.
