This study for solo piano explores rapidly changing time signatures that together form regular hypermeters, as well as the use of tuplets within those measures. The music appears to speed up and slow down, creating an unstable, slightly drunken feeling.
The piece was written for my concert program Ex Nihilo, in which Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata is interwoven with compositions of my own and other related 20th-century music.
Ex Nihilo will be released as an album on February 6 on Antarctica Records, and this piece is out now as the second single on all streaming platforms.
