On Sunday 6th September the regular Cargolux B747-8R7(F) LX-VCC flight from Seattle was due to land at Prestwick Airport. Around 20- 30 mins prior to arrival the crew declared a general emergency with hydraulic issues, thereafter the aircraft began to squawk the emergency 7700 code. Prior to the aircraft arrival the airport fire service deployed in preparation. After touch down the aircraft stopped on the runway and shutdown, thereafter the airport fire service carried out an inspection of the aircraft. Due to the hydraulic issues the aircraft was unable to exit the runway under its own steam due to having no nosewheel steering. A tug then removed the aircraft on to stand. A short while later airfield ops carried out a full runway inspection and the emergency was stood down. A team of engineers from Cargolux home base in LUX is expected to arrive at Prestwick to carry out necessary repairs to the aircraft.
A massive congrats go to all involved in resolving what could have been a very tricky situation.
