Description: While eruptions at mid-ocean ridges comprise ~80% of Earth’s volcanism, they get decidedly less attention than subaerial volcanoes because they are mostly hidden from view. Mid-ocean ridge basalts (“MORB”) aren’t particularly known for their mineral diversity, but they do have a lot of interesting things to say about the composition and temperature of everyone’s favorite peridotite - the mantle. Allie will share her enthusiasm for MORB with all who attend.
