Sunset over Dublin, Part 10: Split Quarter Square Triangle Technique (Turnstile)

Nancy shows another technique to make the Turnstile block for the Sunset over Dublin quilt. In the previous video, she showed how to use quarter square triangles with half square triangles putting them together to make the block called Girl's Favorite. The Turnstile block uses the split quarter square triangle technique. When you make one; you make two at a time. This block is fairly easy to make.

Draw a center line on the large square, add the background piece and sew a scant quarter inch on each side. Cut and press following the directions in the book. Add the next square to each unit and draw a center line. Sew a scant quarter inch again on each side of the line. The blocks will be mirrored images. Cut and press to the point of least resistance. Trim down. Arrange the units in different rows to create different blocks. Sew together using a scant quarter inch. Press again following the instructions in the book. Make four of these units. Nancy separates the seam once the block is completed and presses it again so the seams look like they could spin around.
