As someone who loves to learn about the 1800s, who finds great fascination in all of their fashion, inventions, and social culture, I have to wrestle with the fact that I likely wouldn't survive if I was born then. And you probably wouldn't either. We are lucky enough to reap the benefits from decades of trial and error when it comes to things like science, public health, and safety. But during the Victorian era they didn't have the same understanding of the world that we do, and as a result, some facts about daily life back then can be downright terrifying. From deadly factory jobs, to household poison, here is why you wouldn't survive the Victorian era.
