Elk Mountain Road is a well maintained, easy, gravel road which is suitable for almost any vehicle. The route essentially travels from Natural Bridges National Monument to Blanding, winding its way over the western edge of the Abajo Mountains, passing though Bears Ears National Monument and skirting picturesque Arch Canyon. Reaching an elevation of 8,548 feet, its numerous campsites provide an escape from the summer heat. Elk Mountain Road is also a connector route linking up with several area off-road trails, i.e., South Cottonwood Road, the Causeway, and Gooseberry and Elk Ridge Roads.
