Daniel Roland Lanois is a Canadian record producer, musician, and composer known for his unique and atmospheric production style, often described as blending roots music with cutting-edge sound design. The first instrument Lanois learned was the pedal steel guitar. He has continued using it as his on-stage instrument-of-choice throughout his musical career. Lanois is internationally acclaimed for his work with artists like U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, and Brian Eno.
