Originally, Vivienne Swire, Westwood was born in Derbyshire in 1941, and she began designing thirty years later after she met a famous entrepreneur called Malcolm McLaren, the man best known for managing the Sex Pistols, the UK’s foremost punk band.

In an effort to follow her passions, Vivienne moved to London, leaving behind a divorce, and a life as a primary school teacher.

In London, the Vivienne Westwood identity began to form for the first time, in the decade when Vivienne and McLaren ran a store originally called “Let it Rock” on King’s Road.

Soon, Westwood became known as one of the leading inspirations behind the punk movement, with many calling her the “Queen of Punk”.
