A 1960 performance by lyric-coloratura soprano Anna Moffo of the aria "Bel raggio lusinghier" from the 1823 Rossini opera "Semiramide", based upon the legend of Queen Semiramis of Babylon. This recording displays Moffo in healthy voice, as she had made her Met debut as famed courtesan Violetta Valéry but one year before, and thus exhibited little of the vocal wear that marked her later years as an active performer. During her best years, she was known for her dramatic sensibilities and vocal and physical beauty, all of which lent themselves to satisfying personages of the Italian belcanto tradition.
