Detailed Headliner Repair Process for Mercedes W126 560 SEC | Part 2: Repairing the Sagging Headliner Fabric
In this second part of my video tutorial series, I demonstrate the step-by-step process of repairing a sagging headliner in a Mercedes W126 560 SEC. After removing the headliner in the first part, I now show how to carefully restore it to its original condition.
The first step involves delicately removing the original fabric from the headliner shell. Once the fabric is removed, I thoroughly clean off the old foam residue using fine sandpaper (P100 grit). After sanding, I remove all dust and debris with a brush and compressed air to ensure a clean surface.
Next, I clean both sides of the fabric and foam remnants using a gentle solvent (scotch-brite pad), which helps preserve the material without damaging it.
With the surface prepared, I proceed to apply a specialized headliner adhesive. It's important to do this gradually, spreading the glue evenly to avoid excess that could penetrate the fabric and cause damage. I carefully reattach the fabric, making sure all edges and openings align perfectly.
Once the adhesive process is complete, I reinstall the headliner into the vehicle. The video concludes with a shot of the finished repair, showcasing how the headliner looks now restored to its original appearance.
I hope these detailed tutorials help fellow enthusiasts and DIYers tackling headliner repairs! If you find this video useful, please like, share, and subscribe for more automotive restoration content.
